Private Practice Websites: What You Need To Know

I am sure you know by now that your website is a window to the world. Clients who are considering your services make an instant decision about your practice based on your website and the initial phone call they make to your clinic.

A successful website has high value and client friendly content.

The number one reason for an underperforming website is content. Most physical therapy websites tend to be informational brochures that glorify the resumes of the physical therapists and staff.

Do you provide relevant, patient friendly information to visitors?

You are in the physical therapy business, and you want people to find you, come to you, and use your services. Your purpose as a practice owner is to ensure that your website helps you achieve this.

To improve your chances of getting more exposure and business from your website, here are 3 important questions to ask and answer about your website:

1. What do you want to say to people when they come to your website?

Your website must answer a client’s most pressing question within seconds: “What can you do to help me?”

Before you can capture the attention of clients, you need to determine:

• Who are you really speaking to, who you targeting to bring into your practice?
• What are their needs?
• What kinds of words and phrases are their “hot buttons”?
• What are their fears?
• What kinds of problems do they have and want you to solve?
• What do they really need to hear from you before they decide to use your services?

If you don’t have clear answers to these questions, then you won’t be able to create the right message on your website to those who come to it.

The right messaging on your website…

• shows clients you understand them and their problems,
• informs them of the benefits you can offer them,
• it educates,
• it builds hope,
• and it reduces fear.

2. What makes you different from other clinics in your area?

You are unique; identify how you are unique, what is special about how you serve your clients.

• Why would someone choose your clinic over other clinics in your area?
• Remember that people are buying experience, along with your services. What kinds of experiences do you give your clients that are different from others?
• Think about what your satisfied clients have said to you about their experience with you. These are the words and phrases that will help you articulate what is unique and different about you on your website.

3. What do you want people to do when they are on your website?

This is a very important thing to clarify. If people come to your website and don’t take action, then there is no purpose in having a website. What action do you want them to take? Make it easy for them to take this action, or you will lose them.

Decide on one action you want them to take. Perhaps you want them to read a brief article on the value physical therapy can bring to them, their lifestyle and their independence. Perhaps you want them to read a story or testimonial about others you have helped. Perhaps you want them to take a brief assessment to help them determine whether physical therapy can help them. Whatever you choose for this action step, it must be of immediate benefit to new visitors to your site, as well as returning visitors.

Remember that the more choices you give people, the higher the chance that they will do nothing but leave your site.
