Existential Psychotherapy Training
Thinking of training to be a Psychotherapist, any advice?
I am thinking of training to be a Psychotherapist, I am a 30 year old female in the UK and I already have a 1st Class degree in Art with Humanities. I am more interested in depth psychotherapy, psychodynamic, jungian analysis and existential psychotherapy. I had person centered counseling and CBT in the past and did not find that these approches worked for me however I have not under went any form of depth psychotherapy myself.
Would it be possible to approch a psychotherapist for treatment because I am considering training?
Also Would a degree in art be sufficent for entry onto a psychotherepy training course?
Any advice on books to read regarding training as a psychotherapist would be greatly appreciated too.
I just wanted to add that I have previously looked into art therapy and spoke to some therapist but thay advised that work was nearly impossible to find as there are so few positions available in art therapy, is depth psychotherapy any different?

Like the other answerer, I don’t know the specifics of becoming a licensed psychotherapist in the UK. That said, you should know that psychodynamic approaches aren’t generally used or taught anymore. Besides their extremely low rates of effectiveness, there just isn’t the research to support them.
You’ll need to check with the specific program you’re interested in getting a degree from to see if you fit their requirements. You may need to go back to school to gain some research experience before you’ll be accepted into a program.
